Most people who move (make Aliyah) to Israel retain their dual citizenship. Tal Brody
not only served in both the Israeli and American Armies but will go down in history as
being the only individual who played on the National Teams of both countries.
United States Armed Forces
Just when we thought Tal Brody was here to stay, he returned to the U.S.A. to fulfill his military obligation. After completing Advanced Infantry Preparation for Vietnam, he was immediately drafted into The United States Armed Forces All-Star Team in the position of Starting Guard. Over the next two years Tal toured the world playing Basketball with other U.S. Champions like Billy Walton (who played Center in the World Championship Team) throughout one of the most trying periods in the history of the United States. He was selected for the U.S. team that was sent to represent the U.S.A. in The World Championship in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, where they came in third.
Israel Defense Forces
Tal returned to make Israel his home towards the end of 1970. He rejoined Maccabi Tel-Aviv and was called-up to do his duty in the Israeli Army that same year. We also took full advantage of Tal's unique attributes and had him promoting physical fitness and sports to our soldiers in a big way. His reserve duty consisted of organizing special sports events and fitness days for pilots and Air Force personnel along with a group of professional coaches. There is no doubt in our minds that Tal would have gladly gone down in the trenches if we had asked him to. Top army officials had decided early on that he was much more valuable to us as a highly motivational force and tremendous morale-booster. His son Ron will be completing his duty in the Israeli Air Force this August.
